Volunteer Spotlight - Kathy Shaw

This month, we shine the volunteer spotlight on Kathy Shaw, a dedicated high school English teacher whose heart beats for wildlife. Kathy's journey helping injured animals began in childhood but truly flourished after her kids graduated, allowing her to pursue this lifelong passion. Kathy holds a special fondness for raptors, particularly Owls and Osprey!

Kathy stands out as one of our most dedicated volunteers, guiding newcomers, maintaining raptor enclosures, and aiding our medical team during songbird migration. Every summer, she becomes a crucial part of our summer staff, nurturing and caring for the influx of baby birds.

Kathy finds fulfillment in connecting with the wide range of people at TRT to achieve the same goal. "Getting to work with hardworking, conscientious caring individuals who value nature as much as I do” is her favorite part. Grateful for every chance to learn, Kathy considers it a privilege to be present, whether enduring the chill of January or the sweltering heat of July (even amidst the occasional hiss from our resident Great Horned Owl, Doro).

Thank you for all you do from the bottom of all of our hearts at The Raptor Trust! You are the best!
