Measuring Our Impact

As 2024 comes to a close, we have begun collecting some preliminary statistics about this year. By early November, we had already exceeded our annual average number of admits, which is 5,000. At this rate, we estimate that our 2024 total will be around 5,250 birds.

Graph showing the growth of the total number of birds admitted for care since the 1970s - it shows actual (147,000) in dark green and projections through the end of the 2030s in kelly green (nearly 250,000)

It took us 40 years, from 1977 to 2016, to admit our first 100,000 birds, but it will take us half that time to admit the second 100,000. This remarkable progress is a testament to our ongoing commitment to avian care and conservation.

We realized that by the end of this year, we'll have admitted a total of over 147,000 avian patients since our records began in 1977. Given that 5,000 annual average, this means that at some point in 2025, we will admit our 150,000th bird!

In 2016, 40 years after Len Soucy first began keeping records in 1977, we admitted our 100,000th bird. It has only been eight years since then! After looking at the numbers, we've found that the total number of birds we treat grows by about 4% each year. With this growth rate, we expect to hit the 200,000 mark around 2033. But, if we stick to our current average admissions, we might reach that milestone by 2035.

Thank you for being a part of The Raptor Trust community. Your support and dedication enable us to continue our vital work, providing hope and healing to countless birds. You can read more about what we've accomplished this year in our annual Your Impact publication, which is available in brochure holders at the Education Center and around the campus. We look forward to achieving even greater milestones together in the coming years.
