About the Lecture
Birding Without Borders: The Biggest Year in the World
Bird nerd Noah Strycker set out to become the first human to see more than half of the planet’s bird species in a single, year-long, round-the-world journey. Anything could have happened, and a lot did! Noah endured blood-sucking leeches, fevers and sleep deprivation, airline snafus and car breakdowns and mudslides and torrential floods, and even skirted the edges of war zones—and he had the time of his life. Crossing 40 countries on seven continents while carrying only a pack on his back, Noah enlisted the enthusiastic support of local birders to spot more than 6,000 species, including Adelie Penguins in Antarctica, a Harpy Eagle in Brazil, and a Golden Masked Owl in Papua New Guinea. He shared the adventure in real time on his blog (Audubon.org/noah), and now he reveals the inside story. This humorous and inspiring presentation about Noah’s epic World Big Year will leave you with a new appreciation for the birds and birders of the world.
