Winston was a nestling when his nest was accidentally destroyed by humans. The vulture family was displaced, leaving one baby vulture behind. The owners of the nest-site property brought him to TRT during the summer of 2020.
TRT staff knew from experience that vultures need to socialize with other vultures because they easily imprint on humans. Because of this, Winston was placed with other rehab birds of his age and species, but even given this best possible scenario, he ultimately he did not “fall in” with the wild ones and it was decided that the best place for him was in sanctuary here at TRT. He resides with his pal, Turk the Turkey Vulture, and the duo make excellent education ambassadors for their kind.
